Computer skills and activities such as using Powerpoint, Google Earth, game design, interactive technology and more. Last semester we had clubs at West End Center in Roanoke and Harding Ave Elementary in Blacksburg.

I have a visual illusion demonstration that lends itself well to any age level and can include the anatomy of the eye, ear, and neural pathways.I have a positive discipline lecture that offers many suggestions for classroom management techniques that works for ANY teacher regardless of the grade level taught. I have a fun lecture on the differences between male and female brains that is most appropriate for high school students. I also have a pretty in-depth lecture on neural firing that is more appropriate for an AP biology or AP psychology class. Since my husband and I raise honeybees, I also have a lecture on bees (and provide honey) that is appropriate for elementary and middle school students.

I work with students & faculty in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering on an outreach project called "Concrete for Kids." We discuss engineering, specifically looking at structural engineering and concrete as an engineered material. Then, we make and break small sample concrete beams in the classroom. This project has most recently been used in Blacksburg & Christiansburg middle schools. We have recently developed additional modules specifically for Chemistry, Physics, and Industrial Technology classes that are extensions of this base outreach project.
